Ocular prosthesis

Following a disease or a traumatism, your ophthalmologist advises you to fit an ocular prosthesis.

Our technique and our materials make it possible to adapt prostheses by restoring the best possible expression (exact reproduction of the iris, the sclerotic, mobility).

In order to restore a natural aspect to your eye, all our prostheses are tailor-made by our technicians.

During the operation, the surgeon preserves the muscles and places an intraocular implant in the eye cavity, reforming the sphere partly.

Manufacturing, installation and maintenance

Ocular prostheses

  • Conventional
  • According to the eye cavity imprint

Equipment

  • Microphtalmies, anophtalmies
  • Unaesthetic spheres, phthisical
  • Atypical cavities

Manufacturing a prosthesis

Our prostheses are manufactured in an artisanal way containing resin and pigments, that allows an exact reproduction of the healthy eye. The technique consists in injecting medical silicone in the cavity using an impression material.

The prosthesis must be polished every 6 months by the ocularist because tears contain proteins that are deposited on it.

Installation and follow-up

A provisional prosthesis can be placed 4 weeks after the surgical intervention and is used to replace the conformator.

The tailor-made prosthesis will be placed after complete stabilisation of the cavity, following the prescription of the ophthalmologist.

Maintenance

It is done at intervals varying according to cases (at least once a month) by removing the prosthesis and by cleaning it with physiological salt solution. This operation is painless and can be carried out, after a certain time, by the patient himself/herself.

Before reinstalling the prosthesis, the orbital cavity must cleaned with an antiseptic.

The prosthesis must be polished every 6 months by the ocularist because tears contain proteins that are deposited on it.
