Sunglasses

Sunglasses

In the same way you would slather on sunscreen, you should slip on a pair a sunglasses. Beyond the cool factor, sunglasses protect your eyes from sun damage, glare, and reflections. Overexposure to the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) radiation can result in cataracts and macular degeneration, which in turn, can lead to blindness in the long run. Glare and reflections can give you trouble, especially if you are driving (windshields are a big glare source.)

To protect your eyes, look for sunglasses that:

UV protection

Block 99 to 100% of UVA and UVB rays.

Light Screening

Screen out 75 to 90% of visible light

Frame & Lense Material

Have lenses that are perfectly matched in color and free of imperfections.

Frame Size

Fit perfectly to ensure your eyes are protected from every angle.

Lens tint

While tinted, coloured lenses are all the rage, it is important to select a tint that suits your individual needs. Different tints will alter your perception, including clarity, depth, contrast, eye strain, and glare. Note however that the shade of your lens does not mean UV rays are blocked. Polarized lenses reduce glare but do not protect your eyes from sun damage

Note that the color and degree of darkness have nothing to do with the sunglasses’ ability to block UV rays. Polarized lens, for instance, reduce glare, but do not block damaging UV rays. Be sure to properly read the labels or ask your eye care provider.
